We can process almost any image file format. The most common file formats include JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and BMP. If your file format is not listed here, contact us at info@teddyandfinn.com and we will inform you if your image format is compatible.

For the best possible personalized photo gift, provide us with a clear, high-resolution image of at least 2MB. This enables us to create the highest-quality image within the crystal. The maximum image size is 10MB.

While we accept most photos, clear, high-resolution photos yield superior results. Choose a photo taken in good lighting, as shadows can sometimes become empty space in a 3D engraving.

Steer clear of dark photos if possible. However, we can work with dark images under certain conditions. Let’s say you have an all-black dog. Choose a photo of your pet in clear, bright lighting, which allows our artists to see the dog’s features and highlight parts of the image.
We advise against sending photos with filters or lens flares. These filters and poor lighting conditions can complicate the image editing process, and your photo gift will have less detail.
Make sure your image fits the space well. If your subject is too far in the photo’s background, your image may not be as clear. If the photo is too cropped, important parts of the image will be missing.

Portraits and half-body shots typically produce the most impressive results. For the captivating “following” effect on the reverse side of your crystal, select a photo with a clear view of the subjects. Ensure all faces are directed towards the camera for optimal results.
You should also avoid photos from unusual angles (for example, a bird’s eye view) as they can sometimes look weird as 3D engravings. The best images to upload are close-up portraits of the pets, people, or objects you want to capture in 3D.

In the unlikely event that we cannot use your photo for 3D engraving, we’ll contact you to request an alternative image.

The recommended number of subjects (people, pets, and inanimate objects) varies depending on the shape and size of your 3D crystal.

Important! Your image will be more detailed inside a larger crystal size. We use tiny, laser-etched dots to create a 3D engraving of your photo. Our largest crystals can contain up to 10 million dots, resulting in a highly detailed image.

For small and medium crystals, adding additional figures isn’t typically feasible due to space limitations, as it will compromise the detail and clarity of the engraved image.

Therefore, when selecting your crystal, please follow the recommended number of subjects. The crystal will be produced in 2D format if this limit is exceeded.

Ah, the infamous “floating head” phenomenon. This occurs when the neck of the subject is obscured in your photo, whether due to a shadow or camera angle. As we can only recreate what is visible, there may be an empty space in the resulting 3D engraving where the neck would typically be, giving the appearance of the subject’s head floating above their body.

Most of the time, this empty space is only visible from a few specific angles, so it’s generally nothing to worry about. However, it’s wise to carefully inspect the photos you plan to upload, ensuring that lighting or camera angles don’t obscure crucial details of the subject’s face or body. Upon receiving your photo, our initial step involves removing the background, including any secondary objects. Next, our skilled designers utilize state-of-the-art editing software to optimize the remaining image for the 3D laser engraving process. During this process, minor adjustments may be made to the image layout to ensure optimal engraving results.

Even if you cover the entire template with your image, we always leave some space around your engraving. Occasionally, slight zoom adjustments may be necessary, which can result in the cropping of minor outlying details. If essential elements are missing from the original photo, such as a subject’s fingertip or the top of their hair, we may add these to the final engraving. We may suggest an alternative crystal shape if we believe it would better fit your image.

We know there are cherished images in your life that weren’t taken digitally. Vintage photos, often faded or damaged, can pose challenges for us during the editing process. However, many of our customers have successfully used their phones to capture images of their older photographs and it has worked well. If you’re considering using a vintage photo in your order, feel free to ask us if it will come out nicely. We’re here to help!

Certainly! You’re welcome to upload a black and white photo for engraving in your crystal. Just like with any other photo, ensure that the image is of high quality. Any blurriness or indistinct figures can impact the quality of the engraving.

Absolutely, you can! However, please note that full-body shots are often quite small to fit within your crystal, potentially resulting in a less detailed image and more empty space in the final product.

While we’re happy to engrave full-body photos, we typically recommend opting for close-up portraits or half-body shots, especially for our smaller items like necklaces, keychains, and ornaments.

Our 3D Crystal Rectangle in portrait orientation is the best shape for full-body engravings. For the best results, we suggest selecting one of our larger sizes. Please remember to indicate in the Special Instructions that you’d like us to include the subject’s entire body in the engraving.

Typically, our artists remove the background of your image to emphasize the pets and people in your photo within the engraving. However, the essence of a customizable product is that you get to decide how it looks! If the background of your photo is important to your engraving, you can opt to include it for a small fee by selecting Include Background after uploading your image.

Please be aware that your background will appear in 2D, but individual subjects will still appear in 3D unless otherwise specified. Before completing your purchase, always review your order summary at checkout to confirm that Include Background has been enabled for your item.

If your photo has people and pets in both the foreground and background, kindly inform us in the Special Instructions if you want to include everyone in your engraving. You don’t need to select Include Background to make this request unless you specifically want your background to be included in your engraving.

The appearance of your crystal ultimately hinges on your preference. Typically, we suggest removing the background of your photo to enhance the striking 3D effect of your image. However, if the subjects in your photo are positioned against a captivating backdrop, such as a famous monument or breathtaking landscape, you might consider including it in your engraving. This can be arranged by selecting the Include Background option.

If you choose to keep your background, we’ll engrave it in 2D. People and pets will still be depicted in 3D unless otherwise specified. Before finalizing your purchase, always double-check your order summary.

If the people in your photo are standing in front of a plain, blank wall or in a room with lots of distracting clutter, you’ll probably want to let our artists remove the background from your image.

While that would be impressive, laser engraving differs from laser printing. Our custom crystal images are created by making tiny laser etchings on specifically plotted points beneath the crystal’s surface. Consequently, we’re unable to incorporate color. However, we still think our final product looks pretty cool!
